Online Dating More Risk Quick Disconnect


You are looking for a partner in social media? Better be careful. Recent research shows that couples who met online are at higher risk for dropping out of love than those who met directly.

The increasing popularity of social media, online dating sites, and mobile applications, as an effective way to start a relationship or finding a future spouse.

This study investigates the breakup either marriage or non-marriage of a couple who met online or offline. "Additional factors besides meeting place can help predict whether a couple will stay together or break up," says the researcher.

"Time-tested quality of trust and intimacy remains an important factor in determining whether the couple stays together, regardless of whether they meet offline or online," said Brenda K. Wiederhold, of the Virtual Reality Medical Institute in Brussels, Belgium and Interactive Media Institute, San Diego, California.

The research is published in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking.
